Keren Kajemet Leisrael

KEREN KAJEMET NORWAY

Founded in 1917, as a subfederation of Norsk Zionistforening (Norwegian Zionist Organisation). Money was raised by selling tree-certificates, registration in THE GOLDEN BOOK, and emptying BLUE BOXES. This activity continued after the war, lead by John Jacobsen and later Leon Leimann.

In 1985, under the leadership of Berit Demborg and Celia Gorlén, Keren Kajemet Norway moved in to its own office. They also reached out to the Christian Societies, where we today have our best and loyal donors, with an appeal to support environmental work in Israel. On the Norwegian Wall in Yatir, in the northern part of the Negev, there are about 200 nameplates for the donors - most of them Christians - who have donated money for separate groves - 1000 trees - or forests - 10.000 trees. We also have a special forest project in the Martyr-forest: SAMUEL PLAZA - to commemorate Norwegian jews who perished in Auschwitz.
